Never ever had I imagined that we would be sitting remotely on computers and taking our day to day classes, but it looks like this is the new world order that we all need to cope with for the coming months. Taking classes virtually has its own challenges, coupled with a demanding workload, requires far more discipline and personal management. Last week was one such rigorous schedule that required me to do a lot more in the little time that I had at hand. Every subject requires focus and dedication, but ISM is a special area of knowledge that required extra attention to summarize what I learnt in the past week.
In my last blog, I mentioned that my next topic of research assignment will entail Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s, which are a form of neurodegenerative diseases. However, things did not play out in that manner. As I spent time researching for an article to do with neurodegenerative diseases, there was something more intriguing and eye-catching that I stumbled upon - the World Neurology Congress. This is an annual event that takes place in different parts of the world wherein doctors, global influencers, academia and specialists assemble from all over the world to address and talk about the burning topics in the field of neurology. The 2020 congress will take place in Barcelona, Spain while the 2019 neurology congress took place in Dubai, UAE.
When I looked into the content of the congress last year, I found examples and use cases of unified treatments and care related to neurology. One such topic that caught my attention was the connection between the environment and the brain. I was flabbergasted to know that you could actually develop serious chronic diseases by the atmosphere you surround yourself in. Unfortunately, it has become normal to live in a world that is polluted by neurotoxins, and this subject opened my eyes to an issue that requires an immediate awareness program to safekeep our own health.
It is important that such issues are taken seriously and the healthcare authorities in every country should make this a priority to expose this reality to the masses. Governments should enforce stricter laws to reduce environmental deterioration and its impacts on human life. Environmental neurotoxins, such as lead, methyl mercury, pesticides, and environmental tobacco smoke, should be banned and stricter penalties should be put in place against its usage.
In the coming days I would like to add content and polish my LinkedIn profile. In today’s professional world this is a tool that is used on a daily basis. I will soon connect with healthcare professionals in the field of neurology that I would like to interview and make them part of my professional contacts. Also by the end of this week, I would like to finish all the preliminary work such as building my resume, setting up the digital portfolio and compiling a list of potential interviewees.
I am excited at the work the upcoming weeks have in store!
Saluti,
Afifa
