Is Neurology Right for Me?

Conversing with people is a skill that takes time to develop and can often be daunting. A few days ago, the ISM class had a business symposium where students had the chance to talk to professionals in different fields and get advice on the ISM class, skills for the future, and ways to improve our career journey. I met three wonderful people, and all three gave me tips and advice that I am sure are going to be extremely helpful to me in the future.
Two of three of the professionals I had a chat with were ISM alumni, so I could ask them about their own experiences. I gained some important takeaways from them, such as always keeping an open mind and be accepting of any change. What really surprised me when talking to Caroline, one of the alumni, was that she actually did pediatrics as her field of study, but currently, she works in field marketing. This just emphasized that ISM will help me determine if neurology is the field for me and that maybe at the end of the year, I may discover that neurology isn't the topic for me. I am extremely grateful that all three of the professionals could make time to speak with me and give me some advice.
I am excited, but also nervous, for the coming weeks as I have interviews scheduled with practicing neurologists and neurosurgeons. I look forward to all that I can learn from them and be introduced to.
Until then,
Afifa
